ROHM Theatre Kyoto

ROHM Theatre Kyoto, formerly known as “Kyoto Kaikan,” is one of Kyoto’s most representative venues for the performing arts. The theatre is owned by the City of Kyoto and managed by the Kyoto City Music Arts and Culture Promotion Foundation. Its predecessor, Kyoto Kaikan, opened in 1960 and was designed by the renowned architect Kunio Maekawa. Following renovations in 2012, the venue reopened under its current name in 2016. The opening ceremony, competitions, concerts, closing ceremony and award presentation of KYOTO 2027 Music Festival will all be held here. The theatre is located in Kyoto’s Okazaki Cultural District, close to Heian Shrine, the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, Kyoto City Zoo and Nanzen-ji Temple. It serves as an important hub for music, dance, theatre and artistic exchange in Kyoto. ROHM Theatre Kyoto is more than simply a performance venue. It is an integrated cultural complex that brings together a theatre, public plaza, art spaces, bookstore, cafés and restaurants. This makes it an ideal main venue for the “Japan International Arts & Music Festival – Kyoto.”
